Birchen Edge and Baslow Edge

It was still a nice day but unlike yesterday, mostly cloudy as we parked in the car park next to the Robin Hood pub near Birchen Edge.
We followed the path leading below the edge and paused to point out various routes we had climbed in the past and then continued on a path which was obviously well-used (and very boggy in places!) but not marked on the map, and as we walked along the path, we heard and then saw three skylarks. Spring is on the way!
The path brought us to a gate by a crossroads on the A621 Sheffield road, and we crossed the junction and followed the minor road leading to Curbar for about 100 meters where there was a gate (or stile) back onto the heath land.
Again, there was another path (marked on the map as a bridleway, which brought us to a path junction which was signposted and straight-ahead was the route over White Edge where we have walked before.
We followed the left-hand route which brought us to the car park by Curbar Gap. There was an ice cream van parked there and the temptation proved too much as we each ordered an ice cream and sat on a grassy bank to eat them.
Next we walked down the road a short way then followed the start of the path along the top of Baslow Edge. Here there is a small semi-circular wall with a topograph showing surrounding features. We sat on a grassy patch overlooking the top of Baslow Edge and had lunch.
After lunch, we continued along the path on the top of the Edge. The path curved around at the end of the Edge at a large stone cross commemorating the Duke of Wellington and the Battle of Waterloo and after having a look at the monument, we then back-tracked a short way and then dropped steeply down a short section of ground to reach a muddy path following a stone wall which eventually arrived at the A621 again, which we crossed and then continued over a stile on another path some distance below Gardoms Edge.
This path gradually rose to a high point and then dropped down to reach the Robin Hood pub and our starting point.
